Overview

This section presents a brief introduction to the history and philosophy of education including some of the most prominent theorists and theories that have influenced the philosophy of education and have shaped our modern education community.


Socrates

Socrates, 469-399 B.C., Greek philosopher of Athens, generally regarded as one of the wisest people of all time. This section presents his famous Dialogues as narrated by his pupil, Plato. (More on Socrates)

 


Plato

Plato, 427-347 B.C., Greek philosopher. In 407 B.C. he became a pupil and friend of Socrates. This section presents his famous work, The Republic. (More on Plato)

 

 


Aristotle

Aristotle, 384-322 B.C., Greek philosopher. He studied under Plato and later tutored Alexander the Great. This section presents his famous work, Nicomachean Ethics. (More on Aristotle)

 


Rousseau
